Shakespeare Ceramic Tiles
About Dianthus Ceramics

"In June 2004 I moved back to the Northwest after 25 years in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. I’m a third generation Seattleite. My late husband, Mike Steveni, and I established Dianthus Ceramics in 1986. We ran a workshop/gallery located just off Henley Street directly opposite The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. We employed apprentices, and placed Work Experience students from the School of Ceramics and Glass, now University of Central England, Birmingham (Birmingham Polytechnic). Mike was a Reader in Art Education there when he retired in 1986. He had a distinguished career as teacher, author, inventor, potter, civic leader before his death in 2000.

"We made and designed over 250+ commemorative tankards, plates, and trinket boxes in traditional cream earthenware for The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, The Swan Theatre, The Other Place, and The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. We also fulfilled commissions for The Globe Theatre, London’ The Bodleian Library, Oxford; and many private and corporate commissions throughout the UK. We specialized in small limited editions with a "no quibble" guarantee. Our individual studio pieces at Dianthus Ceramics were executed in oxidized stoneware and porcelain and are in collections worldwide.

"I trained at The San Francisco Art Institute, BFA; Mills College MFA, MA (Art Education) Birmingham."
